Written by Jonathan Brewer.
Befriended by brokenness, in my Sunday best.
Empty. Exhausted. And in need of a rest.
A face full of tears and a heart full of pain,
won’t go through the motions, ever again.
Then everything changed.
A trajectory, rearranged.
Feels like the end.
Brokenness has become my best friend.
And I find Jesus there.
Weeping on his own, beyond despair.
A man of sorrows, among the olive trees,
down on his knees,
“take this cup away from me; but not my will but yours” to please.
And I see him looking at me.
My own brokenness falls aside,
as I look at pure love in the Saviour’s eyes. And I realise.
There on the hillside.
Three crosses stand for three men to be crucified.
“It is finished!” he will cry before this Miracle Maker dies.
Blood and tears, flowed like a tide.
Thunder and lightning takeover the skies.
Then, in the garden nearby,
a borrowed tomb will surprise,
on the third day, weeping ends, and hope will rise;
as the Saviour walks out in dawns first light – alive!
And I had forgotten I was broken,
in comparison to Christ.
I have been changed by love,
through his ultimate sacrifice.
Perspective is everything.
And I’ve felt the touch from the King.
Freed, from what once overwhelmed me.
Now, I befriend others.
who are broken inside,
so they, too, will see Jesus,
because I know: hope is alive.
