Away in the Shadows (Away in A Manger)

(A Prayer for the Undocumented)

Away in the shadows, no place to call home,
Like Mary and Joseph, they wander alone.
No room for the weary, no refuge from fear,
But hope still endures, for help is always near.

Undocumented children, so tender and small,
In search of a haven, where they can stand tall.
Their parents keep striving, through sorrow and strain,
With dreams of a future, through sunshine and rain.

The threat of deportations, the fear every night,
Family separation, a heart-wrenching plight.
Like Ruth in the fields, they labour with fears,
So much for the Saviour, to wipe all their tears.

Full disclosure, ChatGPT and Copilot have been utilised in the developing of this revised version of Away in a Manger which touches on current affairs with reference to the fears of Undocumented Migrants in the United States, while incorporating biblical references by or about Jesus (Luke 2:7, Matthew 2:13-14, Matthew 2:13-15, Ruth 2:2-3, Revelation 21:4). The hope is that, amidst the division and suffering, a message of peace, justice, hope and reconciliation remains.
