It’s 2023 and you realise you’ve just killed God, or least humankind has. They are lying in front of you bleeding, dead. What do you do? Are you going to start CPR? Why are you there? Did you have something to do with this? Are you complicit? But you said They were your friend, or was that just pretence? You feel a wave of pure horror and grief engulf you as the reality hits that God is no more. I suspect you vomit. Your friend is dead and you did nothing to stop it. This all takes place in just a few short moments that change your life forever.
Horrific, but a brutal reality. A death of such a complex nature we will never truly understand it. Except we know now, with the hindsight of 2000 odd years, we know now that it was inevitable. Of course when They died 2000 years ago there was no defibrillator, no ambulance, no escape from pain and suffering that’s how it was supposed to be. We could not save God if we tried even with at the high tech medical paraphernalia of our modern times. Jesus, died taking our indiscretions, our impurities into Themselves and claiming them as their own so that we don’t have too. The wrong doings of every human to ever walk on earth was taken on by Jesus, in order that we may be forgiven and live beyond our mortal flesh life. Jesus died that we might have a relationship with God whilst we are still on earth, a relationship that would not otherwise be possible.
God didn’t die that day. We did. I did. You did. God took us with them, taking all the bits of ourselves that are not required, like, envy, greed, or malice. The list is endless. Then They brought us home again, cleansed and free. We just need to remember that so that we don’t mistakenly go again into death, this time with no hope of return because we cannot bring ourselves home without our Gods guidance.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
Don’t be a leaking vessel. Let Jesus death count in your life. For you are loved beyond measure by God and they are longing for your love in return.
